What C35 Is
This is the page where the engineer usually enters the picture. C35 is trade shorthand for the C28/35 strength class — 35 N/mm² cube strength at 28 days, "35-newton concrete" — and it's the workhorse of specified, reinforced work:
- Reinforced garage floors — the RC28/35 territory of the designated-mix book, at S2 consistence
- Suspended floors and other structural slabs, batched to the engineer's spec
- Livestock and agricultural floors that take machinery and daily washing-down
- Commercial and industrial-leaning floors where 30-newton isn't enough
Designated names like RC28/35 may only be supplied as such by certified producers, so we batch an equivalent C28/35 designed mix to the strength and durability requirements of BS 8500 / BS EN 206 — and the full class goes on your batch ticket, not a nickname.

When the Engineer's Spec Governs
For structural and suspended work, the drawings rule: C28/35 or better, to the engineer's spec. This is where buying a designed mix matters. With a designed mix, the producer — us — designs the concrete to meet your performance specification and is responsible for it doing so. That's different from a prescribed mix, where whoever dictates the recipe carries the risk.
Every load leaves with a batch ticket recording the strength class, consistence, cement type, aggregate size, batch time and metered volume — and our onboard calibrated metering prints the batch record. Need identity testing? We'll fill cube moulds on request and point you to UKAS-accredited labs for 7- and 28-day crushing. One honest caveat: if your specification strictly requires certified designated concrete — NHBC and National Highways specs do — we'll tell you straight and advise, rather than supply something the paperwork won't accept.
Working to a carbon target? We batch lower-carbon mixes on request using GGBS cement replacement — replacing a tonne of ordinary cement with GGBS saves around 780kg of CO2e. The trade-off is slower early strength (equal by 28 days), so allow longer striking and curing times, especially in winter.
Structural Pours, Volumetric Style
A volumetric truck carries materials for up to around 9m³ per visit and simply reloads for bigger pours — and because the operator batches at the point of pour, we can switch mixes mid-visit. Pour your C25/30 footings and step up to C28/35 for the garage floor in the same trip; one truck, two specs, one delivery charge conversation.
It also means the maths can't hurt you. Size the slab with the concrete calculator, add your 5–10% contingency, and relax: we bring spare material and bill only the metered volume that's poured. What is C35 concrete used for?

Do I need C35 for a garage floor?
Depends on the floor. A plain, unreinforced garage base only needs C16/20 — that's our C20 mix, and it's cheaper. Put mesh or rebar in the slab and it becomes a reinforced garage floor, which is C28/35 territory at S2 consistence. The steel is the deciding line, not the badge on the car.

What is the difference between C35 and C40?
A step in duty. C35 (C28/35) covers reinforced garage floors, suspended slabs and hard-working commercial floors. C40 (C32/40 and up) is for industrial wearing surfaces and heavy-duty yards — floors that take forklifts and steel wheels. If an engineer has specified the class, that settles it; if not, tell us the traffic and we'll recommend honestly.
